How Is Your Contribution Helping the Children of the Harrison Central School District?
Your support continues to make a difference in the lives of all of the children of the Harrison Central School District. Thanks to your generosity, the Foundation is able to make resources available to the district for educational projects and programs beyond the scope of the school budget. These projects and programs directly impact a broad number of children and support the district’s educational objectives. The Foundation’s funds have allowed the district to pilot and expedite programs that otherwise would not have been funded. Since its inception in 1995, the Foundation has raised over $2,000,000 which has been distributed equitably to all six schools in the district. Some major initiatives funded by the Foundation over the past several years include:
- Partnering with the district on an extensive renovation of the Harrison High School auditorium. Our grant funded the installation of a state of the art sound and lighting system to enrich the education of all children participating in the music, choral, dance and technical theatre programs.
- Purchasing two mobile computer carts for each of the elementary schools to complement the inquiry based methods of teaching being utilized today. These computers allow small groups of students to collaborate together on a particular project.
- Funding a major overhaul of the technology utilized in all high school science classrooms. This included piloting Smartboards (interactive blackboards) into the classroom which received high marks from both teachers and students and are now used uniformly throughout the district.
- Award winning writing competitions at both the middle and high school level.
- Literacy kits at the elementary school level designed to improve fluency skills.
- Law Day at Harrison High School where mock trials are held at a competitive level versus other schools in the county.
- Book bags for all incoming kindergarten parents stressing the importance of reading to young children.
Many other smaller grants are also made each year. These grants may be smaller in terms of the dollar amount of the grant, but they are nevertheless very effective and provide children with educational opportunities they would not otherwise have.
Working closely with our Superintendent and school administrators, we are constantly assessing the needs in our schools to identify other educationally stimulating grants and determine how our grants can make the greatest impact. But we can only carry out our mission with the generous support of friends and neighbors like you during our fundraising efforts. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts. Your generosity will positively impact our community and benefit the children of our district for years to come. |
